The Media Wanted Trump. Now They're Scared To Death He'll Win

Oh you silly Mainstream Media gooses. When Donald Trump announced he was going to run for President, you all got together and salivated at the thought of Queen Hillary going up against The Donald in a general election. You figured that out of all the possible Republican opponents, even with all of Hillary's baggage, going up against Trump would be a surefire thing.

So, during the primaries, you made it your mission to treat Trump with kid gloves. So what if he gave you more fodder than any other politician - ever - on a daily basis. He insulted Iowans, Mexicans, women, Muslims, numerous reporters, virtually all of his primary opponents, POW's, the disabled, the Pope, Asians, African Americans, Seventh Day Adventists, and debate moderators ... and that was just in the first month or so of the campaign. You just pretended it didn't exist, you jotted it all down, and saved it for such time as you could roll it out to bring him down if he secured the nomination.

What else was there? Let's see....
  • Failed businesses? At least a dozen.
  • Bankruptcies? Four.
  • Marriages? Three.
  • Employing illegal immigrants? By the hundreds.
  • Ripping off subcontractors? Too many to count.
  • Lawsuits? 3,500 and counting.
  • Using eminent domain to take an old lady's home so he could build a parking lot? Why not.
Did you give this any coverage at all? Nope. Zippo. Nada. And it's not because these things weren't known to you. They were all brought to your attention by sixteen, count 'em, sixteen candidates who sought to take Trump on in the primaries and repeatedly brought the issues up.

What did you do instead? Why, by May of 2016, you gave Trump some $3 billion worth of free, favorable media coverage. According to one television news analyst, Trump was only surpassed by weather reports in total airtime.

A Harvard University study explored your coverage of Trump during the primaries and determined that it was "unusually" positive. When Trump would commit a gaffe, you  immediately resorted to using statements and interviews with Trump supporters that softened, explained, or legitimized his comments. You  even called Trump “presidential” after winning the New York primary despite numerous racist and sexists comments.

This gave Trump the foundation from which to defeat his primary opponents and he did so without a super PAC, without a ground organization, without field offices, and with one of the smallest campaign budgets of all the candidates. Did I mention that he didn't fundraise and he spent less on television advertising than any of his opponents?

The whole time you were just biding your time. Worst case scenario, you thought Trump would implode but in the meantime you sat back and helped him decimate his opponents. And if Trump did get the nomination, Katie bar the door. With all of Hillary's baggage, you believed Trump would be the least likely opponent to seriously challenge her and stop a Clinton Presidency Part Deux.

You knew that Hillary was like the Titanic. She had loads of structural weaknesses and one good hit would bring her down. Her history of lies, corruption, and cronyism was well documented and you thought that just about anyone but Trump would be able to ram an iceberg into her bow during debates, ads, and campaign rallies.

So, you held back. You gave Trump pass after pass after pass. You ignored Trump's past, his cronyism, his eminent domain history, his campaign contributions to questionable candidates, and his  questionable dealings with foreign governments.

You never chided him for having voted for both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. You downplayed the fact that he was a lifetime Democrat who switched parties. You looked the other way when it came to his past campaign donations to Hillary Clinton (Senate), Rahm Emmanuel, Harry Reid, John Kerry, Chuck Schumer, and Charlie Rangel, among other notable Democrats. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

You devious goobers. You thought that because Trump had as many negatives as Clinton (many of them shared) that would handcuff his ability to attack her. So off you went gleefully thinking you were setting up what you thought was a sure win for Hillary.

Where you missed the boat is the train wreck that is Hillary. Her baggage is compounded by a horrible economy and almost daily reports of Islamic terrorist attacks. That has Americans extremely concerned.

They don't believe America is on the right track after eight years of the Obama administration in terms of domestic or foreign policy.

To make matters worse, Hillary continues to add to her baggage. Over 2/3 of Americans now believe she is dishonest because she continues to try to rewrite history. She is a wooden stiff and doesn't connect with people.

Finally, her supposed strength - experience and judgment - has been shredded with the fiascoes in Benghazi, Lybia, and most recently her email server.

The cherry on top is Julian Assange who is waiting in the wings to nuke Hillary's campaign. He's already unleashed one salvo and it wreaked havoc at the Democratic Convention. Purportedly, he has a treasure trove of additional documents that he intends to release before the election involving the Clinton Foundation and (be still my heart) the 30,000 emails Hilary deleted from her server. Can you say October Surprise?

And so you're left with Trump. You forgot to be careful what you wished for and now you got it. If someone had told you last year that Hillary could end up being taken down by a self centered, bombastic, egomaniacal, political neophyte who frequently insults a good chunk of the U.S. population, mocks the disabled, denounces various foreign governments, and demeans women, all in one campaign stop, you would have laughed at me.

Heres me laughing at you. Tee hee hee.
